I'm just going to go ahead and say this and put it out there and see what happens.
I am attempting to figure out, why in the fucking Jesus. H. Christ, Rhianna is going back to Chris Brown. I think she is setting a horrible example for young girls and I am shocked that I have not read more negative comments about her choice. When Britney Spears damn near had a nervous breakdown and was doing crazy shit, the tabloids, magazines and shows were all over her. But for some reason I am sensing a very concerned and sympathetic public response from the crowd and I can not understand what the difference is.
Is it because Britney has been in the public eye for so long we felt it was okay for us to criticize and antagonize the poor girl until she got really fat, didn't use a car-seat and shaved her head? I think it's important for the girls who look up to these celebs understand that their choices are not always right. I think it's important they understand that they are human and can make bad choices as well. And going back to an abusive boyfriend/husband/etc is always a bad idea. Even if they never hit you again (which is rare) having to live in that fear is unnecessary.
Perhaps Rhianna's decision has to deal with how females are viewed. We're always seen as these delicate creatures who need looking after. Well, I think she should step out and speak out against all this bullshit because she'll be considered a fool if she doesn't.
not to mention what this will do to both their careers.

I totally agree. It's bad to go back to someone who hurts you like that in the first place, but then when you're in the SPOTLIGHT??? Makes no sense. Speaking of their careers, I had already stopped listening to Chris Brown's music (I never really liked him except for that Doublemint song anyway), and now have to change the station when Rihanna comes on. O, and did you hear they're coming out with a song they did together? Turns out they recorded it a couple of days after he BEAT HER. The whole thing's nuts.
ReplyDeleteI think that the whole situation is ridiculous, and that Rihanna will ultimately come to regret her decision if she really does decide to stick with Brown. And I think that her decision is starting to affect the way people are looking at the story. I saw a poll on the news yesterday where they asked young people who they thought was responsible for the incident, and a surprising 46% said that it was Rihanna. When you are a victim of abuse and let it go on without doing anything about it, it is bound to just keep happening again and again, which people are beginning to realize now.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how somebody could go back to a boyfriend or girlfriend who would treat them like that. You would think the person would respect themselves a little more than to let themselves be treated like that and come running back. I think it give a very bad vibe to Rhianna, she's not allowing herself to be dependant on herself and move on from that guy. It does give a bad rep to women everywhere because it makes them seem helpless and a lesser person than they really are.
ReplyDeleteThe most disturbing thing to me is that, in the conversations surrounding this incident, we're getting data suggesting that relationship violence is seen as NORMAL for a significant portion of teens (the pop audience for both these singers, right?)..... Oh dear! This is a "teaching moment" if ever there was one...
ReplyDeleteI agree it is a strange thing. She should obviously have a little more sense and realize that since Chris Brown hit her then she can obviously do better. She may still have feelings for him but she needs to realize this dude is an idiot. I am completly disgusted by Brown and lost any respect I may have had for him. With that being said, and I'm not endorsing what he did, but Rihanna seems to come off a quite a "bitch". I have read articles about her being extremly diva and difficult. She just strikes me as someone who's company I wouldn't enjoy. Of course, that doesn't excuse Brown's behavior in the least. I also have to admit I'm a Jay-Z-Beyonce kinda guy.
